Thomas Harold Petty was born December 5, 1939, and passed away November 17, 2025, in Lexington, at the age of 85.
He was the only child of the late Thomas Wilson "Wilsey" and Lucy Hendrix Petty. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Weaver Petty.
Harold was born and raised on the family farm in the Union Cross community, where he attended elementary school. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1957, where he was an outstanding baseball player, earning a baseball scholarship to the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he studied engineering and continued playing baseball. After a couple of years at Martin, and knowing he was about to be drafted into the military, and wanting to choose which branch, he enlisted in the Air Force. After his basic training, he was assigned to the air base near Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. He spent the remainder of his military career there. He then moved his young family to Columbus, Mississippi, where he continued his engineering career. He later accepted a job with the Tokhiem Corporation in Newbern, Tennessee, where he lived for several years until the company relocated. He then moved back to Lexington, where he was employed by Century Electric, then later retiring from Johnson Controls. His jobs required frequent trips to several states as well as Mexico & Canada. Harold was a hard-working man of integrity, honesty, and was well respected in the community as well as the workplace.
After retiring, he and Carolyn enjoyed road trips to several National Parks, and traveled in 48 states and Canada. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Some of his happiest times were when he was on his tractor or combine on his farm, planting and harvesting his crops of corn and soybeans.
Other than his parents he is preceded by one daughter, Vicki Wuckowitsch.
He is survived by a son, Michael Petty (Teresa), 2 bonus daughters, Susan Hays Blankenship and Cynthia Hays Gilliam (Colby) of Henderson County. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Josh Petty (Bonnie) of Murfreesboro , Jennifer Yearwood (Russ) of Lascassas, Kristen Bear, Lauren Hamilton (Jake) and Madison Wuckowitsch, all of Henderson County; 4 bonus grandchildren: Colt Blankenship (Holly), Aaron Blankenship, Justin Blankensip (Rachel) and Carli Gilliam, all of Henderson County. He is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, Aster, Evan and Lucy Yearwood and Poppy Hamilton, 8 bonus great- grandchildren, Weston, Oakley, Abby, Harrison, Beckham, Granger, Monroe and Asher Blankenship, and a special cousin, Gladys Weaver Bartsch, who was more like a sister, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
The family will receive friends at Reeds Chapel beginning at 10 A.M. Wednesday morning, November 19th with services scheduled for 2 P.M. Interment will follow at Lexington Cemetery,
Lexington, TN.
