Thomas R. Phillips, 73, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away September 21, 2024 in Medina, Ohio. He was born in Blue Springs, Missouri on December 17, 1950 to Vernon and Virginia (Casteel) Phillips.
Thomas was a professional musician with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and an adjunct professor at Centenary College of Louisiana. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri, the University of Iowa, and Ohio State University. Overall, he earned two masters degrees. He retired in 2015.
He enjoyed solving problems in geometry and composing music. He was in love with the culture of Latin America and spent five years in Mexico and a short time in Nicaragua. He lived with appreciation and gratitude toward everyone he encountered. He especially loved his son, Matthew, and they had a wonderful relationship. He will be dearly missed by his friends, family, and students.
Survivors include his son Matthew Phillips, sisters-in-law Karen Phillips and Lisa (John) Croftcheck, nieces and nephews Sean Phillips, Victoria Luna, and Justin and Ashley Croftcheck. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tracy L. (Chapman) Phillips, and his brother, V.J. Phillips.
Graveside Services will be held at a later date to be announced. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Tracy, in the Chapman Family Cemetery in Diana, West Virginia.
