Thomas Poston Obituary

Visit the Benson Funeral & Cremation Services website to view the full obituary.

Thomas Andrew Poston, (known to many as "Cowboy", "Bugs Bunny", "TAP", or "Tompo"), 42, of Kings Mountain, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Thomas was born on September 30, 1983 to the late Richard Brett Poston and Debra May Poston.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by both sets of grandparents and his nephew, Mason Moyles.

Thomas had a deep love for the history of cars and enjoyed working on them.  He also loved writing- especially stories and pieces about automotive history.  Those who knew him well, knew he had a strong personality and a confident spirit, often believing he had seen it all and done it all.

He was a devoted father to his daughter and a good uncle to his nieces and nephew.  Thomas is survived by his daughter, Sarah Poston of South Carolina; his sisters, Patricia Moyles and her husband Robert and their son, Liam of NC, Marie Moss-Reynolds and her husband Paul of NC; his uncles, Jaime Madison and Richard Moss also of NC; his brother, Charles Burgin and his wife Deidre of NC; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

His last words were "I feel like I should not have survived the widow maker heart attack." He was going to write about his life experiences, but the Lord called him home to finish his story there.

Affectionately known as "Unc Skunk" by his nephew Liam, Thomas will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for cars, and the stories he carried with him.

My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. ~ John 14:2-3

Memorial Services will be held Saturday February 21, 2026 at Kings Mountain State Park, Blacksburg, SC 29702 from 3:00-6:00 PM.
