Thomas "Tom" Richter

Funeral Mass for Thomas "Tom" Richter will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Divine Mercy Parish ~ St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. The funeral service will be live streamed on the Oakcrest Funeral Services Facebook page. Burial will be held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Wesley.
Thomas Jerome Richter was born May 9, 1953, in Mason City; the son of Francis "Frank" and Mary (Gray) Richter. He graduated from Bishop Garrigan High School with the class of 1971. After high school, Tom went on to serve his country in the US Navy, enlisting in 1973. He was honorably discharged in February of 1977.
After his service in the Navy, Tom began working for Bob Becker Construction, where he spent 18 years. He later transitioned to the United States Postal Service in Garner, where he continued to serve his community until his retirement on September 20, 2020.
On November 24, 1979, Tom was united in marriage with Lori Green. Together, they were blessed with six children.
In his younger years, Tom was an avid softball player, often found playing in the outfield with his league team in Britt. He had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying countless hours fishing and tending to his garden. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cribbage and 500, sharing laughter and friendly competition. Tom deeply cherished his time with his grandchildren and always prioritized his family.
Thomas died on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Westview Care Center in Britt. He was 72.
He is survived by his children, Jeremy (Tracy) Richter of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jessica (Brian) Brown of Mason City, Joshua (Kasondra) Richter of Kanawha, Jacob (Brittney) Richter of Algona, Jenna Richter of Mason City, John Richter of Mason City; siblings, Connie (Walt) Smith of Rock Hill, SC, Bill (Cathie) Richter of Whittemore, Phil (Rhonda) Richter of Malvern, Mark (Tina) Richter of Johnstown, OH, Jeff (Janice) Richter of Wesley, and Jim (Julie) Richter of Corwith; sister-in-law, Scherry Richter.
Tom was also the proud grandpa to Elijah, Wyatt, Taylor, Leah, Thea, Kayden, Kyiah, and Kaylee.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Steve Richter, and sister Georgene Garman.
