Thomas Charles Ronk, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on February 28, 2025.
Tom was born July 6, 1937 in Galesburg, the son of Harold W. and Ida M. (Berry) Ronk. He married Ellen Totten on June 27, 1967 in Nashville, Tennessee. Tom is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ellen of Galesburg; one son, Rodney (Wendy) Steck of Dixon, Illinois; three grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
Tom worked at OMC/Gale Products in Galesburg for 27 years. He went on to own and operate Ronk's Floral Shoppe and Greenhouse in Abingdon, Illinois with Ellen for 28 years, until their retirement in 1999. Tom was a faithful member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. He was blessed with great musical talent and loved to play the piano and sing. His greatest joy was performing for others and was an outstanding entertainer. He was generous with his time volunteering to play at nursing home and various benefits throughout the years. Tom started the Illinois Country Opry Show at the old Eagle's Bar here in Galesburg. He traveled for a time playing the Dobro in a bluegrass band. Tom was known everywhere he went whether it be from his musical talents or his friendly personality. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Father Jeffrey Stirniman will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to OSF Hospice or to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
