Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory - Downtown Suffolk on Mar. 26, 2026.
Thomas Moore Savage passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026 at the age of 81. He was born on November 16, 1944 in Suffolk, Virginia, second son to William R. Savage Jr. of Accomac County, Virginia and Martha Louise Savage (Matzie) of Chuckatuck, Virginia. Tommy attended Suffolk Public Schools and graduated from Suffolk High School in 1963. He graduated from the College of William and Mary and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia L. Savage and daughter, Stephanie L. Savage; brother, William R. Savage, III; nephew, Charles Steele Savage (Jennifer); grandnieces, Madelyn Lane Savage and Kelly Savage Knight (Matt); nieces, Linda Wilkins (Norman), Patricia Springer; and numerous cousins. Tommy was very proud of having served in the United States Navy. During the Vietnam War he served on the U.S.S Hancock VA-191 aircraft carrier. He received several medals for serving in a combat zone off the coast of Vietnam and a Letter of Commendation upon discharge.

Tommy was a wonderfully kind, loving and patient husband, father, son, brother and uncle. Family and friends describe Tommy as a caring, kind and gentle soul who was always willing to help anyone who needed help. He enjoyed talking to friends and strangers alike. He never left anyone in a crowd standing alone. He lived his faith. He just loved people. He also loved the Suffolk Christian Church and was an active member throughout his life in serving many terms as a Deacon and working on many church committees. Tommy was a very committed teacher for the Baraca Class Men's Bible Study for 45 Years. Tommy served his beloved Suffolk community through many church outreach programs and was also a member of the Suffolk Jaycees, Lions Club, and Rotary Club. Tommy served on the Meals on Wheels Board as well as delivering meals several days per week. Tommy was also a member of the Jolly Boys.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents and sister, Martha Ligon Savage as well as his nephew, William R. Savage IV "Rick". In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Christian Church, Western Tidewater Free Clinic, or Suffolk Salvation Army.
