I took Professor Schelling's course Economic Principles & Public Policy in 1980 when I was working on my MPA at the Kennedy School of Government. I have great admiration and respect for this outstanding educator whose teachings are still so meaningful to me to this day.

Tom Schelling was my dissertation advisor in the early 80s at Harvard. One day while waiting to talk with him, I asked his secretary why she kept answering the telephone,"Mr Schelling's office," rather than "Dr Schelling's office." She looked at me, smiled and said, "Because Tom believes 'Mister' is the higher title. I will always have deep respect and affection for Mr Tom Schelling.

I knew Tom Schelling in the early 1940s in Berkeley when his sister Nancy lived at the same rooming house we did and he visited her frequently. The two of them inspired me to take on a major in Econ at Cal Berkeley and eventually to become a Foreign Service Officer. We never met again after those years, but I will always see Tom and Nancy as my leaders. My most heartfelt sympathy goes to Tom's entire family. The world has lost a great man at a time of great need for his brilliance.

Deeply grieved to learn about the passing away of Professor Tom Schelling. He was a legendary figure and would be remembered for his large number of original ground-breaking contributions in diverse fields. MY deepest condolences to all members of his family. May his soul rest in peace.

I had the privilege of meeting him in October, 2010, during the special Convocation Ceremony of Manchester University, UK, when he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree. I still cherish the photograph in which I am sitting beside him as one of the four recipients of the Honorary Doctorate degree.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope the promise at 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there is a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Our sincerest condolences to Alice. Tom was an extraordinary man, in so many ways. A truly gracious and modest person of exceptional insight, kindliness and intellect. Tom was an original, thought-provoking and highly creative thinker. He was also a superb listener and an exceptional judge of human character. The chats I had with him around his kitchen table, over a glass of red wine on a wide variety of topics, were always memorable. It was a privilege to know a true gentleman of such caliber.
