THOMAS SCOTT
Thomas Scoffield Scott died Saturday, March 16 at his home after over a year battling cancer.
Tom was born April 3, 1944, to Barton and Bertha (Marine) Scott in Panama. Tom joined two older brothers Barton and Bill. After Tom came brother, Jaime, and sister, Rita. He lived in Panama until he graduated from high school. He moved to Texas to attend UT Austin. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and received an honorable discharge. He was employed as a medical technologist at Katy Hospital, Texoma Medical Center and Bonham Veterans Center. He retired at age 55. July 22, 1967, Tom and Nancy Brown were married.
They bought a house and lived in Denison and raised two children - John Christopher and Jennifer Lynn (Ulcak). After Nancy passed away, Tom remained in Denison. Tom volunteered at Helping Hands and at Parkside Baptist Church in various ministries. He loved working in his garden and sharing most of his crops with his friends. He continued to enjoy gardening as long as he was physically able. Tom loved to cook both inside and outside, especially smoking meats and making bread. He was always willing to talk gardening or cooking to anyone who would stand still. On October 12, 2019, Tom married Janice K. Kretzer who survives. They looked forward to traveling but covid kept them home. They spent time cooking and watching movies. It was so much better than if they had been apart. They did make a few trips. They enjoyed several trips to North Padre Island where they spent as much time as possible at the beach.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jan, three brothers: Barton, Bill, and Jamie and a sister, Rita, two children: Chris of Houston, Tx and Jennifer Ulcak of Detroit, Michigan, three stepchildren: Stephanie Fetrow of McKinney, Tx., Steven Kretzer of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Stacie Kretzer of Crowley, Texas, two grandchildren: Rachel and Nathan, and step grandchildren: Ashley Fetrow, Caitlin Fetrow, Courtney Fetrow, Quentin Kretzer, Gavin Anable, Trinity Kretzer and Audrey Kretzer. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Nancy, and step grandson Taylor Fetrow.
Memorial service with Military Honors for Mr. Scott will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2024, at Parkside Baptist Church in Denison. Family and friends will gather to visit one hour to service time at the church.
