Thomas Shanahan, 68, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away at home on Jan. 14, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, Army veteran, outdoor lover, and a hard-working family man who meant the world to those who knew and loved him.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Joan Bender Shanahan.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Sarah Gill; granddaughter, Kyla Pavia; sister, Patricia Frey; and brothers, Joseph Shanahan Jr. and Brian Shanahan.
Surviving family includes his beloved wife, Linda Casey; his daughters, Amy Pavia, Danielle Casey, and Maria Ciavarro; son, Thomas Shanahan Jr.; grandson, Shane; stepmother, Mary Shanahan; brother, Bob Shanahan; and sisters, Joanne Balasavage and Kathy Balls. He was also a proud dog dad to three and had a special place in his heart for animals, especially neighborhood dogs and cats who never failed to find treats in his pockets.
Known for his humor, kindness, and unforgettable quirks, Tom had a way of making people laugh and feel special. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and neighbors, and his memory will be cherished always.
Though hearts are broken by his loss, there is comfort in knowing how deeply he touched the lives around him. His memory will live on in laughter, shared stories, wagging tails, and the quiet moments where his absence is felt most.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. followed by military honors.

Linda , Danielle & the rest of his family . Tom was a really great friend and neighbor to me all these years . He was always their to sit and talk about things that were going on in our lives the good and the bad . When I was down he knew exactly what to say with one of his many stories that made me laugh . I know right now it is going to be tough but just sit down and remember all the great memories you all have of him that will last forever . Rest In Peace my dear friend . May God's guiding light show you right to the gates of heaven .
