Thomas "Tom" Smith, lifelong resident of Hartford passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Born in St. Joseph on Oct. 30, 1959, and raised in Hartford, Tom was a proud small-town businessman, farmer at heart, and a man who never met a machine he didn't want to drive.
Tom was the owner of Tom Smith Tractor Parts, a family business founded by his parents that he proudly carried on, building upon their legacy through hard work, integrity and a genuine commitment to helping others. Known for his knowledge, fairness and friendly conversations, Tom was a familiar and trusted face in the community for many years.
Above all else, Tom was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lori Smith; his mother, Shirley Smith; and his father, Thomas Smith.
He leaves behind his three daughters: Jennifer Smith, Lindsay (Eric) Clark and Kimberly Aboagye; his sister, Beth (Butch) Rhode; his stepmother, Verna Smith; and his six cherished grandchildren: Karinna, Oliver, Emerson, Thomas, Kyrie and Elian, who brought immense pride and joy to his life. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Linda Craig, along with many other family, friends, and loved ones who were blessed to know him.
Tom had a lifelong love of farming and the land, and if it had wheels or an engine, he was interested. From tractors and heavy equipment to classic cars, Tom appreciated anything that drove – especially if it needed a little work. He also enjoyed traveling and making memories with those he loved, always happiest when surrounded by family.
Tom will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, steady presence, and the deep love he held for his family and community. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the business he built, and the family he was so proud of.
In keeping with Tom's wishes and personality, casual attire is encouraged. Guests are invited to wear their best blue jeans and a button-up shirt – just like Tom did.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at Duffield & Pastrick Funeral Home in Coloma. Private burial will follow. Visitation will take place from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marie Yeager Cancer Center, Hanson Hospice Center or the Mary Free Bed Foundation. Those wishing to share a memory or leave a message for the family may do so at www.duffieldpastrick.com.

My condolences to his family. Tom used to visit me across the counter at my work buying parts for his tractors. Always a very nice guy.
