Thomas E. "Tom" Spradlin
Waverly - Thomas E. "Tom" Spradlin, age 98, of Waverly, Il. died Saturday morning (October 18, 2025) at his residence.
He was born August 10, 1927 in Waverly, Il. son of the late Roy E. and Mabel Lindsey Spradlin.
He married Norma Cummings and she preceded him in death. He later married Vicky Welch DeLong on November 12, 2002 and she survives.
Also surviving is his son Ted Spradlin of Loami, Il.; his stepchildren, Kathy Reynolds (David) of Springfield, Il., and Greg DeLong (Margaret) of Hillsboro, Il.; three grandchildren, Michael Spradlin of Helana, Montana, Kaden Spradlin and Schylar Spradlin both of Loami, Il., ten step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Myles; and twenty-four step great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Spradlin of Vacaville, California; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Spradlin, Jr.; and seven siblings.
Tom was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the Army and one of the very few surviving W.W. II veterans in the area. He was a truck driver most of his life working for C.A. Dawson, and various companies driving delivery. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Waverly. Tom loved NASCAR, loved playing cards, and various other games with couples. Tom was also an avid baseball Cardinal fan.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday (October 23, 2025) at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Il. Burial will be at Waverly East Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by Waverly American Legion Post. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Waverly Rescue Squad and sent to Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 E.
