Fr. Patrick Connor

I first met Fr. Tom when I entered the College Seminary at Becket Hall in 1976 when he was the Rector. I had gone through all the Evaluations and Tests and my Appointment with him was for my last Interview. I always had been nervous at Interviews, and this was no different, not because of him but just my nature, so to speak, of being a nervous person at times, I guess. I had nothing to hide...guess I wanted to be a priest so badly I was afraid to be rejected. I didn't apply to the seminary until I was in my mid-20s even though I wanted to be a priest since grammar school. Anyway, as he sat at his desk reviewing my file suddenly his face brightens up and he has a big smile as he looks at me and says, "Patrick, young man, where have you been! You are an excellent candidate! You have glowing reviews! Welcome to Becket Hall! I'm glad you are here!". His warm welcome I believe was God's way of telling me I made the right choice. I've never regretted it... and that smile in Fr. Tom's obituary was the same I saw that day he welcomed me. I'm sure he wears it now in Heaven.
