In Loving Memory

Thomas Sten, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. In his 81 years, Tom lived with a quiet strength and a generous heart that touched everyone who knew him.

Tom was born on May 28, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, to David Sten, a Swedish immigrant, and Julia E. Dowling, a Brooklyn native. He grew up in the Kensington neighborhood, in the very house his grandparents had purchased in the early 1900s, a home full of history and love. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and went on to Xaverian High School, where he competed in track & field. He later attended the University of Dayton.

Answering the call to serve his country, Tom proudly served in the United States Naval Reserves from 1965 to 1971, a chapter of his life he carried with deep pride until his final days.

In 1967, Tom met Evelyn, another Brooklyn native, and knew immediately she was the one. They married in August 1968 and embarked on a life together that would span 57 devoted years, four children, five grandchildren, and countless shared adventures. Evelyn was, in every sense, the love of his life.

In 1983, AT&T relocated the family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Tom planted new roots just as deep as the ones he had left in Brooklyn. He built a second career with Macy's, and for many years, he and Evelyn shared the joy of camping with the Telephone Pioneers, weekends full of laughter, friendship, and fresh air.

Tom was a man of many passions. He adored Corvettes, Dodge trucks, and NASCAR, and the rumble of a well-built engine was music to his ears. He had a lifelong love of trains, spending hours with his model railroad and settling in happily to watch train shows on television. And then there was bowling. Tom was a devoted and gifted bowler who achieved what every bowler dreams of: a perfect game. The lanes were his domain, and he owned them. But nothing could compare to the joy he found simply being with his family.

In the hours after Tom passed, a powerful storm rolled in, filling the sky with deep, rolling thunder. His grandson Zac smiled and said, "There goes Grandpa, bowling a 300." It was the most Tom thing imaginable, and we laughed through our tears, knowing he was already right at home.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion that lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; his children, Kirsten (Bill) Max-Douglas, Eric (Angela) Sten, Cynthia (David) Lindemann, and Andrew Sten; his One and Only sister, Anne Marie (Sten) Rogan; five grandchildren, Michael, Steven, Matthew, and Stephanie Lindemann and Zac Max; and countless cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Julia (Dowling) Sten.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Tom's memory to Parkinson Community Fitness (PCF), located at 9687 Kenwood Rd, Blue Ash, OH 45242 https://parkinsoncommunityfitness.org. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
