Thomas Stranik Obituary
November 2, 1942 - January 27, 2025
Thomas J. Stranik of Morse Bluff, 82 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, January 27, 2025 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Tom was born November 2, 1942 to Rudolph and Adeline (Jirik) Stranik of Morse Bluff, Nebraska and attended Catholic grade school in Prague, served as an altar boy and later an acolyte for many years at St. George Catholic Church, Morse Bluff.
He was a 1960 graduate of North Bend High School, then immediately joined the U.S. Naval Reserve. He served two years active duty in the Western Pacific on an LST with the main port being Yokosuka, Japan. He continued as an active member of the U.S. Naval Reserve, serving an additional 20 years.
On October 2, 1965 he married Kathie Gaughen at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cedar Bluffs. He was a loving husband of 59 years, father of four, and grandfather of nine. He was a life-long farmer and loved being a private pilot. Tom was a former member of the Morse Bluff Volunteer Fire Department and a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was a very proud 25 year member of the Board of Directors of Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company.
Survivors include wife Kathie; children: Amy (Jim) McCarthy, Rita (Raffet Velarde) Stranik, Tom (Erica) Stranik and Stacey Blue; grandchildren: Ryan (Sunny) Jespersen, Megan Jespersen, Lauren Jespersen, Natalia Velarde, Diego Velarde, Gavin Stranik, Cooper Stranik, Peyton Blue, and Logan Blue; siblings: James Stranik and Maribeth Stranik; nephews: Jeff Spence, Steve Spence, and Wyatt Stranik.
Preceded in death by parents: Rudy and Adeline Stranik; sisters: Phyllis Spence and Carolp Stranik; brother-in-law, Richard Spence; nephews: Joe Spence and Greg Spence.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31 at 10:30 AM at St. George Catholic Church in Morse Bluff, followed by burial and luncheon. Visitation will be Thursday, January 30 from 5:00 – 7:00PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont.
Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend, NE.
