Thomas Szymanski

Thomas Szymanski, age 79 of Port Huron Twp., passed away on February 27, 2026. He was born on July 12, 1946 in Detroit to the late Raymond and Frances (Stawski) Szymanski. He married Barbara Kotkoski on November 20, 1970 in Detroit.

Tom served honorably in the United States Army in Vietnam. He graduated from Walsh College with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He retired from Chrysler/General Dynamics after 41 years of service, as a Senior Analyst. Tom was a member of the VFW Post 8465 in Port Huron Twp.

While living in Harrison Twp., Tom coached youth football for Mt. Clemens Baracudas for 20 years. Affectionately known as "Coach Tom" in the area. He coached for an additional 7 years in St. Clair. He volunteered at Holy Trinity Parish, St. Mary's Church in St. Clair and Grace Ministry in Kimball Twp.

Tom enjoyed stamp collecting, solving puzzles and playing euchre and poker. He and Barbara enjoyed many senior trips to various cities, within the United States since retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Szymanski, son, Brian Szymanski, grandchildren – Kyle Szymanski, Tehya DeMerrit and Charlie Szymanski, sister, Judy Morton, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, along with several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by a son, Matthew Szymanski and 3 brothers, Roy Szymanski, Eugene and Marion Szymanski.

Funeral services will be held on Friday – March 6, 2026 at 12:30pm in the Jowett Funeral Home – 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate. The burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Friday from 10:30am until the service at 12:30pm.

Military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and St. Clair County Veterans Council

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
