Thomas Timlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carpino Funeral Home - Southbury on Jan. 19, 2023.
OXFORD - Thomas Francis Timlin, 86, peacefully left this world on January 17, 2023. Tom was a devoted husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather. He was also known as lover of all dogs, an avid fisherman, small-boat boater, Keney Park golfer, coach, and skilled carpenter. He was a true gentleman that epitomized a life well lived. His warm, blue-eyed smile, kindness, sense of humor and wisdom will be dearly missed, but we are comforted knowing that he is dancing in Heaven with his beautiful daughter, Rebecca, who he affectionately called, "Becky".
Tom was born on August 25, 1936, to Mary (Collins) and Francis Timlin. Born and raised in Scranton, Pa., he attended Scranton Prep and his beloved Villanova University. You may have noticed his life-long loyalty for Villanova Basketball in his ever-present blue V hat, jacket, and sweatshirt. A true believer in the importance of education, he went on to receive two master's degrees: Electrical Engineering at Catholic University and Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytech Institute. His early professional career began as an engineer with the National Security Agency. While with the NSA, Tom was transferred to Germany to work with the US Army. During that time, he enjoyed traveling through Europe in his convertible sports car with his beautiful bride. After returning to the States, he settled with his wife and started a family in Windsor, Connecticut, where he spent most of his career at Hamilton Standard. Following his retirement from Hamilton in 1992, he returned to his love of education, and taught at several universities in the area.
"Pa", a true family man, was most proud of his family. He lived a simple life marked by his deep faith in God and tremendous commitment and sacrifice for his family. His greatest joys were when he was in the presence of his four children, ten grandchildren and many grand dogs. His calm, sweet demeanor, quick sense of humor and sparkling blue eyes made him a favorite among the grandchildren to visit and learn from. Always engaged and connected, he enjoyed every game, meet, recital, fishing trip, graduation, and life event as the core elements of his well lived life!
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Rosalie Timlin (Wurtz). Tom was predeceased by his daughter, Rebecca Timlin-Scalera. He leaves behind two daughters: Vivian Ciampi (Marc) and Paula Cunningham (Jim); a son, Sean Timlin (Sharon); a son-in-law, Tom Scalera; and ten grandchildren: Zachary, Carina, Colby (Ciampi); James, Makayla, Thomas, and Kendall (Cunningham); Brianna (Timlin) and Bella and Luca (Scalera). He is also survived by his lifelong friend and brother, Col. Jerome Paul Timlin - together they personified the cartoon characters, "Tom and Jerry".
There will be a celebration of Pa's remarkable life at a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 23rd at 11am at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford, CT. Calling hours will immediately follow the Mass and a private burial will take place on Tuesday.
A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, physical therapists and aides at Waterbury Hospital and Watermark Rehab Center who cared for him over the past few months. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Cancer Couch Foundation, a foundation founded by his beloved daughter, Rebecca, to fund vital research for Metastatic Breast Cancer. http://www.thecancercouch.com
