Dear Laurie - We learned only now of the passing away of Tom, your dear husband. We extend our sympathy to you and your family for this loss, but for his gain. We fondly remember you both in your labours to maintain the sound doctrines of Scripture in your churches and beyond. It was a joy to have fellowship during the "seventies" and "eighties" when we lived in Michigan. With Christian love, Neil and Ricky Pronk

Just learned of the passing of Pastor Vanden Heuvel. We were so blessed to get to know him and be under his care for a time as he was used greatly by the Lord to help plant Redeemer PCA in Traverse City. He spent so much time and labored tirelessly for our congregation. Our children loved him dearly also. He will always be remembered by our family as a passionate man of God who loves people and the Lord Jesus wholeheartedly. His fire for the Lord was contagious. Thank you so much for sharing him with us. Praying for you all.

Dear Laurie and Family: Sandy and I express our sincere Christian sympathy to you in Tom's passing. We have been praying for you during his long struggle with is health, and will continue to do so as you step forward into the future without him. Both of us had great respect for him as a faithful man of God who faithfully preached God's Word over the years. May God bless you richly in these days of sorrow in the assurance that he is now in the living presence of his Lord and Savior.

Laurie and family,
We extend our deepest sympathies to all of you in the heaven-going of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend to so many and spiritual mentor. Tom truly was a blessing in Christ to so many people and especially to us in many ways. I often called upon him to install me in several ministries because I respected him so much. I am sure that he is rejoicing in Jesus's presence having heard His words, "Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into the kingdom prepared for you". What a joy he is experiencing and we will share it with him very soon as life is short. You are all truly loved. We will continue to pray for comfort and for strength day by day. Love, Bob and Cheryl Ritsema

Learned over the weekend of the passing (going on ahead of us to be with the Lord) of my dear friend and fellow minister Tom Vanden Heuvel. Many, many fond memories and thoughts pass through my mind when I think of this wonderful man. Just one for now: what was said of that faithful man in the Scripture account of the early church named Barnabas could equally be said of Tom - "he encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith ...." He sure helped me to that end and my recollection of him will continue to do so. I look forward to seeing him again. May the good Lord be with, and greatly bless and comfort, his faithful and dear wife Laurie, his children, grandchildren, and great children especially tomorrow as well as in the future days and years of their earthly journey. Love, in Christ Jesus, Walter.

Dear Laurie, Jane, Joel, and the rest of the family. Our deepest condolences to you. Tom is one of the godliest men I've ever met, and has been a close mentor and friend since 2004. When you think about the legacy we are called to as Christians, and especially as Christian ministers, Tom has captured it. We will always remember Tom and miss him dearly until we meet again. Much love to you all!

Dear Laurie- You have my deepest sympathies in the passing away of Tom. I remember our Bible studies long ago when I was a hippie and a brand new Christian and being invited into your home for Sunday meals with all the little kids at the table. How fun was that! Tom taught me a lot from his life and from the Bible.

Remembering your family in the recent passing of your husband, dad and grandfather.
My husband had Tom´s Dad for a pastor growing up as a young boy at Wyoming Immanuel CRC. We knew several of Toms siblings. Later our paths crossed again when Jim and Ruth taught at Sully Christian. May you experience God´s peace in your grief and need. Our prayers and Christian sympathy are with you all.

Our sympathies go out to the family. May the God of all comfort supply you all with His strength. I first met Tom when he was my mentor for theological reflection during my year at Calvin seminary. It was a blessing to have him provide counsel and wisdom to this pastor to be. I've never forgotten his kindness. Later we served together on the Board of Reformed Fellowship while he was Editor. He served there to promote propagating the faith as well as defending it.

Our sympathy Laurie and family. We always appreciated the preaching from Rev. VandenHeuvel when he supplied our pulpit. Garnet and I fondly remember the other times we got to reminisce, and also back when I served on a publication committee with the VandenHeuvels.
