I met Tom when I accepted an appointment as a planning commissioner. He was a mentor to me and a source of sound judgment. He looked at every issue that came before the commissions with care and consideration of what was best for our city. Grosse Pointe Woods is better because of his dedicated and long-term service.

Tom was such a wonderful friend for so many years. He was a sounding board - a man able to look at all the information and advise you what directions you could go in. Even now, as I go through some documents, I think what would Tom have to say about this. I have the holy card by my desk, and it's a reminder to always think about how we can the most good for everyone in our lives. Keep an eye on us, Tom. We still need your guidance and wisdom.

I don´t know where to begin but I have known Tom since we were children. Our parents were very good friends so we had an annual get together around the holidays. We always had a blast! As we grew we saw Tom, Patti, Kathryn, Cecilia, Patrick and Audrey at LLWC. Our four children along with their four became great friends and made some very special memories for all of us. Tom is one of the kindest there is, always interested in others and I/we will miss him. Love to his whole family.

I met Tom about 8 years ago when I was asked to fill a vacant seat on our city´s planning commission. Tom served as both a friend and a mentor durning my term. He had a unique ability to listen to a concern or an issue and find a solution agreeable to all. His professionalism and dedication to our city was second to none. Tom will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched both personally and professionally. I am proud to have worked with him and to have called him my friend.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Tom. His unwavering dedication, not only to his career but to his community and family, was truly inspiring. Tom's kindness, wisdom, and zest for life touched so many, including myself. My thoughts and prayers are with Patti, their children, grandchildren, and the entire Vaughn family during this difficult time. May his memory be a source of comfort and strength for all who knew and loved him.
With heartfelt condolences and our love always,
Keeley, Kellan and Finlay Stempin

Some ~ 45-46 years ago , my now deceased husband John and myself shared pre marriage classes with Patti and Tom @ St Philomena Catholic Church. John also went to school with Patti . Their families were connected growing up being in the same parish.
Such a wonderful guy Tom was! We remained connected through Regina and our daughters there!
I never saw Tom without a warm and friendly smile , always interested in you. My prayers for all who knew him, especially Patti and his family.

Tom was one of the kindest and most thoughtful souls I ever met. Our initial professional relationship grew into a family friendship over 40 years of working together. He was always there for us. Our family is deeply saddened at Tom's passing and pray for his beautiful family.
