Thomas R. Wheeler, 78, of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away Jan. 24, 2026.
Born Dec. 2, 1948, in Falls, he was the son of the late Walter and Margaret Gryskavicz Wheeler.
A proud Vietnam War veteran, Thomas served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant from Sept. 1967 to May 1970. He was active in the American Legion Post #815, Wilkes-Barre Township. He was a past commander from 2012 to 2013, and then an active board member from 2013 to present.
Thomas worked for Great Northern Distributors for 25 years and also worked as a courier for Mercy Hospital until he retired in 2010.
Thomas was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love for his family was steady and unwavering.
Thomas is survived by his sister, Debby Dixon, of Dallas; his cousin, Cheryl Lamas, of Texas; his wife, Theresa Wheeler; daughter, Michelle Melovitz; stepson, Robert Wallace, of Wash.; grandchildren, Brittany Taylor, of Wilkes-Barre Township; Brad Melovitz, of Wilkes-Barre Township; Dylan Wallace and Damon Wallace, of Wash.; and great-granddaughter, Kaylee Taylor, of Wilkes-Barre Township.
Thomas will be missed dearly and his legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the values he passed down. Our family will forever carry his memory with love and gratitude. His service to his country and his devotion to his family will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre. Deacon William Behm will be officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
