Thomas Williams Obituary

Thomas Williams

Thomas "Tom" Williams, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. Born on October 14, 1948, in Coaldale to the late Thomas and Mary (Zajac) Williams, Tom's life was a testament to his thoughtful, generous and kind nature.

Tom was a proud graduate of Marian Catholic High School, where he formed lifelong friendships and a foundation of knowledge that would serve him well throughout his life. Following his education, he answered the call of duty and served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. His bravery and dedication were recognized with two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart for his valor during the Vietnam War.

After his honorable military service, Tom continued to serve his community through his work with Jim Thorpe Borough. His many duties over the years showcased his versatility and commitment to the well-being of his fellow citizens. Tom's work ethic and dedication to service were hallmarks of his character.

Tom's commitment to his fellow veterans was unwavering. As a long-standing member of the American Legion Post 304 in Jim Thorpe, he was always active in supporting and helping his brothers and sisters in arms. His involvement in the Legion was not just a pastime but a continuation of his service to his country.

Family was the cornerstone of Tom's life. He leaves behind his loving wife, Judith (Tout) Williams, and their children: Hollie Yanett of Frackville; David Yanett and his wife Pamela of Littleton, Colorado; and James Tout and his companion Tracy Hunsicker of Jim Thorpe; Thomas and his husband Paul of Harrisburg. He was a guiding light to his grandchildren Tiffany, Serenity, Vanessa, JR, Kyle, Charles, Daniel, Kaylee, Charles and Valen, and his great-grandchildren Isabella, Teryn, Cole, Atlas, Elijah and Lukas. Tom was predeceased by his daughter Jennifer "Jenny" Goldstein. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Marie Reis and her husband Ron of Nesquehoning, and Maureen Hirochek and her husband Louis of Nesquehoning, who will miss his presence deeply.

Tom's life was a living example of the words that best described him: thoughtful, generous and kind. He touched the lives of many with his warm smile, his unwavering support, and his ability to see the good in every situation. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community he so diligently served.

As we bid farewell to Thomas "Tom" Williams, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, honor, and selfless service. His memory will forever be cherished and his impact on the world will continue to resonate for generations to come.

Services will be held Saturday, January 3, at 11 a.m. in the David J. Stianche Funeral Home in Jim Thorpe with Father Ronald Minner officiating. Calling hours 9 a.m. until the time of the services in the funeral home. Interment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, with full military honors at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to Carbon County Friends of Animals, 77 W. 13th St., Jim Thorpe, PA 18229.

Tom was a good neighbor and friend. I'll always remember him walking Judy's and his dogs out here in Hacklebernie. We respected him for his service, for our freedom.
