Thomas Wilson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bates Cooper Sloan Funeral Home - Mount Pleasant on Jan. 1, 2026.
Thomas Delarkin Wilson Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully and entered Paradise on Saturday, December 27, 2025. A devoted servant of the Lord, Tommy lived a life marked by faith, courage, and compassion.

He was born on October 28, 1946, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Thomas Delarkin Wilson and Mary Cornelia Wolfe. On January 11, 1989, he married the love of his life, Susie Jean Herren, in San Diego, California. Together they shared 36 years of marriage filled with love and devotion.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife Susie; his stepson Christopher London; his daughter in love Rebecca London; and the pride and joy of his life, his granddaughter Ember London. He is also survived by his sister, Pauline Scott and her husband Robert Scott, as well as his daughter Vicki. He leaves behind a wonderful host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, who cherished him deeply.

Tommy graduated from McCormick High School in McCormick, South Carolina. In July 1964, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps, completing three tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in July, 1970. His Marine Corps spirit never left him-"Once a Marine, always a Marine." Semper Fidelis-Faithful and Loyal.

After his military service, Tommy built a long and successful career with AT&T. Upon retirement, he devoted his life to ministry. He served as a preacher and counselor, pouring his heart into helping homeless veterans and civilians at the San Diego Rescue Mission. He also preached faithfully at two Churches of Christ in the Imperial Valley of California, sharing the gospel with conviction, humility, and love.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Genie, Margaret, and Betty Jean; his sister in love Grace; his brother Bennie; and his nephews Barry, Gary, and Jacob, as well as his niece Krystie.

Tommy lived with courage, served with honor, and loved with a Christ shaped heart. His legacy of faith and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A memorial service will held on Thursday, January 8, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at North Jefferson Church of Christ.

In June, interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Military Cemetery, with Marine honors.

So sorry to hear of Tommy's passing. A very good man. As teenagers we would run around on bicycles around Summerville, SC. Around mid 60's, his sister Pauline joined the Marines. Tommy and I drove to Parris Island while Pauline was in boot camp with the idea that we would be allowed to visit. That didn't happen.
