Radel Funeral & Cremation Services -DehliThomas “Tom” Diehl Winkler, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Tom dedicated his life to serving and entertaining his community in Delhi Township and the greater Cincinnati area. He spent many years as a beloved shoe salesman at Dale’s Shoes in downtown Cincinnati and was also the charismatic frontman of the local band Silver Sunrise. After retiring from retail, Tom continued to bring joy to others as a part-time wedding and event DJ and an ordained minister.
Tom’s commitment to service extended far beyond his professional life. He volunteered for over two decades with the Delhi Citizens Police Association, including fourteen years as its President. He also supported the Delhi Township Police Department by transporting vehicles for maintenance and joining officers on ride-alongs.
A passionate music lover, Tom especially cherished the sounds of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley—one of the great loves of his life. In 1999, he began volunteering with local radio stations, first answering pledge calls for Cincinnati Public Radio, and later hosting his popular show Classics of Country on WAIF. He also stepped in to host other programs when needed.
Tom’s selfless dedication to his community earned him the 2019 Citizen Award from the Hamilton County Law Enforcement Association, and Delhi Township honored him with “Tom Winkler Day” on February 28, 2019.
Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Aron and Tom Back; his grandchildren, Cody (Lexie) Timmerman, Bailey Back, and Tristan Back; and his ex-wife and lifelong friend, Debra Winkler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas B. and Lucille M. Winkler; his companion, Mary Susan “Sue” Jaeschke; and his beloved dog, Bear.
Long live The Legend.
