Thomas Lee Young, Attorney of Rocky Mount, NC, more recently residing in North Myrtle Beach, SC, then Charlotte, NC, died on January 12, 2026 at the age of 95. A memorial service will be held at Weddington Methodist Church, 13901 Providence Rd, Weddington, NC 28104, on Saturday, January 24th at 3:00 PM.

Mr. Young was the son of George T. and Beulah Hanner Young of Lexington, NC, and the grandson of Albert T. Young and W. Lee Hanner, also of Lexington. He is survived by his wife, Nancy S. Young of the home, sons, George F. Young, David E. Young and Lee M. Young, daughter, Elizabeth A. Young Bramlitt; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Young graduated from Lexington High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.S. 1952; J.D. 1954), where he was Associate Editor of the Law Review and Member of the Order of the Coif (Law Honor Student). He was admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, State and Federal Courts in North Carolina and Nash, Edgecombe Bar Association until retirement.

He was a partner, then principal of the firm of Battle, Winslow, Scott & Wiley, P.A., in Rocky Mount, since 1961. Prior thereto he was an officer in the Judge Advocate Generals Corp (JAG); North Carolina Revisor of the Statues and Assistant Attorney General of North Carolina.

Although later in his career, Mr. Young specialized in healthcare and business-related areas of the law, he was earlier engaged in complex litigation including serving as special counsel to the Attorney General in the original "one man – one vote" litigation, early civil rights litigation, and utility regulation.

He was an Eagle Scout, President of the Rocky Mount Jaycees, President of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, Vice Chairman of the North Carolina General Statues Commission, Chairman of Thomas Hackney Braswell Library Board of Directors, Commodore of the Pamlico Saling Club, Member of Edgecomb County Development Corporation, President of the North Carolina Society of Healthcare Attorneys, Chairman of the NC Bar Association Health Law Section, Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, Trustee of the Synod of North Carolina Presbyterian Foundation.

The family will receive friends after the service. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Samaritan's Purse, St. Jude's or Tunnel for Towers organizations.
