Thomasine "Tommie" Allen West, of
Adairsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rooted in family, history, and an unwavering commitment to preserving the stories of those who came before her. She was born on December 27, 1933, in Oak Bowery, Chambers County, Alabama, and spent her youth attending school in both Alabama and Georgia-places that shaped her love for tradition, community, and the stories carried from one generation to the next.
In 1953, Tommie married Charles Autrell "C.A." West. Their marriage was a true partnership, marked by devotion, shared purpose, and decades of cherished memories. They made their homes in Georgia for more than fifty years, as well as in Lafayette, Alabama, and together they built a family that became Tommie's greatest joy.
A natural storyteller and an avid historian, Tommie developed a special passion for genealogy after conducting research for her admission to the Daughters of the American Revolution. What began as a project grew into her life's work. She authored numerous family histories documenting the Allen, Hudson, Thornton, and related families, as well as the West and Mealor families, among many others. Her dedication ensured that countless relatives and descendants would come to understand the richness of their heritage.
Tommie was also devoted to education in a professional sense. She retired after thirty years of service with the Bartow County, Georgia Board of Education, where her steady presence, commitment, and compassion touched the lives of students and coworkers alike.
Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Dixon and Catherine Allen; her husband, C.A. West; her son, Allen West and siblings Dixon Allen, Barbara Booth, Helen Jarrell and Judy Brooks.
Above all, Tommie loved and was deeply loved by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Gail Edwards and Debra Watson; and her son Jeff (Jennifer) West. She was blessed with seven grandchildren: Amy Black, Stephanie (Charles) Graves, Ashley (Jessica) Black, Lauren (Brett) Stephens, Justin (Sydney) West, Meagan West, and Brittany (Coy) Ricker; nine great-grandchildren: Trey Green, Cameron (Madison) Boswell, Olivia West, Thomas Graves, Jackson Graves, Barrett Stephens, Emma Cate Graves, Georgia Ricker, and Charlotte Ricker; and one great-great-grandson, Cooper Boswell. She is also survived by sisters Avie Phillips, Edna Rankin and brothers James Allen and Robert (Teresa) Allen.
With a life defined by compassion, curiosity, and devotion to her family, Tommie leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire those who loved her. Her work, her wisdom, and her gentle spirit will live on in the generations she so carefully documented and dearly cherished. Her passion for preserving the past has left an enduring gift for future generations, and her kindness and generosity will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
