I was so sorry to learn of Thurman's passing this morning. He and I served together in the Air Force, first at Itazuke AB, Japan, then at Schilling AFB, Kansas. We served on B Flight Law Enforcement together at Itazuke, he was Flight Commander and I was Desk Sgt. We rotated back to the states together in Feb. 1962. My parents picked me up at Travis and we picked up Todd, as we all called him, at the Greyhound bus station in San Francisco and drove him to Los Angeles before continuing on to San Diego. Todd and I travelled Japan together in summer of 1961 including a climb to the top of Mt. Fuji, the highlight, for me! Todd was always the sharpest dresser and most refined airman in the squadron. That led to coveted jobs in the Squadron CO's office and later at SAC HQ when he transferred to Offutt AFB, NE. A group of us from Schilling have maintained contact over the years except for Todd, who dropped out several decades ago. Despite that he still comes up in conversations, and I was just asked this morning if I'd heard from him lately. I called him last year but got no answer. Todd, you will be sorely missed by all your buddies out west, Bill, Wayne, John and myself. You were quite a guy and certainly one of the most honerable and distinguished airmen it was my pleasure to know. God be with you! Photo is L-R Chas. Short, David Fisher and Thurman Todd.
