Dear Thomson family and friends, I am so very sorry for your loss. Thyra was such a kind person and will be missed. At such a time, it is good to reflect on the promises God gives us such as the one at Hosea 13:14.

Tears now but one day it will be joy because god said he will wipe away tears today we look for that time

She had to have been a GREAT LADY!! Even though I did not know her, in Kansas we had a former Secretary of State Elwill Shanahan, and I'm sure they knew each other. I worked for Mrs. Shanahan in my VERY FIRST job for the State of Kansas.

I heard a "rumor" several years ago that Mrs. Thomson (although I didn't know it was her when I heard the story) was instrumental in getting the beautiful rest stop installed near Chugwater! It was quite the "story" and I really hope it was true! Our Army Reserve unit used to go past Chugwater on the way to Guernsey training area and I drove "shuttle" many times for our female personnel to the little restaurant there! While I'm sure it created some business for them, I'm also confident they weren't extremely excited about all the "commotion"!

To Mrs. Thomson's family -- I'm sure you have other great memories of her. May those memories and God's Grace bring you peace and comfort following her long and productive life.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to you. I do understand how hard it can be when a loved one has been taken by death. The pain, the grief, and the feelings of helplessness can seem unbearable. At such times, we need to go to God's Word for comfort. 1 Cor 1:3-4.

Although I did not always agree with Secy. Thomson, she was one honorable and intelligent lady. RIP, Madam Secretary.

It's hard to say goodbye to a woman like Thyra! Thank you for setting the example of what can be done, and what should be done, for women everywhere. You will be missed by all of us.
