Timothy Allen Cook, 70, passed on to his eternal reward on September 28, 2024 in Mandan, North Dakota, with loving family at his bedside.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on October 2, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Richardton, North Dakota with Father Thomas Wordekemper OSB celebrating. Visitation will occur at Stevenson Funeral home, at 2067 First St. W, Dickinson, North Dakota 5860, on October 1, 2024 beginning at 5:00pm, followed by a rosary and vigil service at 6:00 pm.

Tim was born on January 30, 1954, to William Jefferson Cook and Frances (Gleich) Cook in Dickinson, North Dakota. He graduated from Dickinson High School in 1972 and Dickinson State University in 1977. He worked as an artist for DSU, contributing several original pieces to their repertoire. Tim met Susan Arnold after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in art education. Tim and Susan were married on August 22, 1980, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton, North Dakota. From their union, three children were born: John in 1981, Michael in 1982, and Alisa in 1990.

In 1986, Tim, Susan, John, and Michael moved to El Paso, Texas. The following year, Tim joined the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department as a detention officer and reserve peace officer. In 1991, he transitioned to a full-time deputy sheriff and served in that role until 1996, when he was promoted to detective. Tim continued to serve as a detective until his retirement from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department in 2012. During his tenure, he held various roles, including homicide, internal affairs, robbery, and served as a task force officer with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In 2012, Tim and Susan retired to North Dakota, where he dedicated his time to caring for and improving their property, managing wild populations of thirteen-lined ground squirrels and other varmints, and clearing snow. He had a passion for tools, especially organizing them, and always viewed the world through an artist’s eye. He enjoyed SCUBA diving and traveled to many beautiful destinations with his wife, as well as playing guitar. Tim was a faithful Catholic and served as a greeter at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton, ND. He lived his vocation daily as a faithful, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He died from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease on September 28, 2024. We are comforted that he has found victory over death in Christ and has joined his wife and other loved ones in the peace of eternal life.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren: John Cook and his children Judy, Collin, and Jensen (Colorado); Michael and Bobbi Cook and their children Avery, Jackson, Anna, William, and Grace (Oklahoma); and Alisa and Andy Dinges (North Dakota); two sisters, Colleen Rohr and Rhonda Winch (North Dakota); and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Susan Cook, his Father William and Mother Frances, and his brothers Dean, Dana, Brian, and Jim.
