Obituary for Tim Cummings
Tim Cummings, 72, of
Rutherfordton, North Carolina, entered his heavenly home on November 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family in the home where so many of their most cherished memories were created.
Born on November 20, 1953, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Tim lived a life defined by generosity, quiet strength, and a deep love for people. He had a gift for making others feel seen, supported, and encouraged-whether through a warm conversation, a well-timed joke, or simply showing up when he was needed most.
Tim was a man of many passions and talents. A highly accomplished bowler, he earned a PBA Regional Title and was inducted into the Spartanburg USBC Hall of Fame-honors that reflected his dedication, sportsmanship, and remarkable skill. He was also an avid and accomplished golfer who loved nothing more than a beautiful day on the course with friends and family.
Beyond those pursuits, Tim poured countless hours into coaching youth baseball, shaping the lives of an entire generation. He was known for his patience, encouragement, and his ability to make every player feel capable and valued. His influence stretched far beyond the ball field and will continue to live on through the young men & women he mentored.
At home, Tim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Cummings, whose strength, loyalty, and steadfast care carried them through every high and low. He is also survived by his children Ashley Cummings Bradley (husband, Chad) and Brad Cummings (wife, Sarah). Tim's legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Lane Bradley, Kylie Bradley, Crayden Bradley, Cole Bradley, Easton Cummings, Henry Cummings, and Hollis Cummings-each one a source of tremendous pride and joy. He is also survived by his brother Ted Cummings (wife, Louise).
Tim is also survived by extended family, as well as countless friends who became family through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Floyd "Casey" Cummings and Patsy Pittman Cummings.
For nearly three years, Tim fought courageously against cancer while also facing the challenges of dementia. Through each step of that journey, he was surrounded by unwavering love, prayer, and an extraordinary community of friends and family who supported him and Darlene in ways they will never forget.
Special thanks are needed for two family members who went far beyond what is typical, stepping in with unwavering support, hands-on care, and genuine love. Their dedication provided immeasurable comfort to both Tim and Darlene during the hardest moments of his journey, and the family will be forever grateful for the way they showed up-day after day, with full hearts and servant spirits.
A receiving of friends will be held on Monday, November 24th from 4:00–6:00 PM at Crowe's Mortuary in
Rutherfordton, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to VIA Health Partners of Cleveland County, whose compassionate care and support made a tremendous difference throughout Tim's illness.
