Timothy Brown Obituary

Timothy "Tim" R. Brown, 68, of Rome N.Y., passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at Rome Health with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 8, 1957, in Nedrow, N.Y., a son of the late Hadley and Mamie McArthur Brown, Sr. A gifted athlete, Tim graduated from RFA, where he made his mark as a standout running back on the football team, even earning himself recognition as an All American. He continued his education at Maryland University. On October 10, 1995, he married the love of his life Colleen Kessler in a ceremony which took place in Camillus, N.Y. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for over 30 years. Prior to his retirement, Tim was employed at the Central New York Psychiatric Center. He was well known throughout the community for his hard work and dedication as the owner of Browns Car Wash and The Body Shop Fitness Gym. Tim was also one of Jehovah's Witnesses and a devoted member of the Rome South Congregation. In his spare time he loved traveling, keeping up with sports, fishing, and barbecuing for his family, simple things that brought him so much joy.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen Brown of Rome; two sons and daughter-in-laws, John and Stefanie Ringlehan of Rome, Jean Marc and Elizabeth Brown of Binghamton; daughter and son-in-law, Lea and Joshua Rhem of North Carolina; a sister, Edna Burke; five brothers, Michael and Gail Brown, Morris and Damaris Brown, Horace Brown, Hadley, Jr. and Heather Brown, and James Brown; he also adored his nine grandchildren who were the light of his life and his greatest source of pride, Nicole and Eddie Bentley, Jenna (Connor) Schlick, McKenna, Kennedy, Addison, Kendall, and Ryan Rhem, Hadley Mae and Sterling Grace Brown; along with several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to lifelong friend Steve Mcdonald. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Jonathan and Phillip Brown.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Strong-Burns and Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of life at The Stanwix Veterans and Men's Club of Rome. The Brown family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff from 2 North and the ICU of Rome Health, with special acknowledgments to Kelly, Robin, Elyse, Jess, and Spencer for the compassionate care that they provided to Tim and his family.

I was thinking Tim last week. Remember him well on the football team. Back in 1974, speed trials he ran 40 yards at 4.8, such a gifted athlete, very quiet, and well respected. God Bless his family.

Even though I have not seen Timmy in many years I remember many things from Rome and RFA. Timmy was one of the best to come out of RFA as both a Football Great but also one of the friendliest guys I knew, me and Eric Nelson would sometimes ride to school with Timmy in his green old Ford car. I remember Timmy and all the Brown Brothers as just great guys. May God Bless all of the Brown Family and I hope the great memories help get you through the hard times.

I was saddened to hear of Tim's passing. Although I hadn't spoken to Tim since our high school days, I'll never forget the impact he had on our 1974 football team or the strength he exuded as an individual. So many of our team mates kept in touch with Tim and held him in the highest regard. As a man of faith, rest assured that he's escaped the confines of his earthly body and has taken his place with the lord. And as written in Isaiah 40:31,"but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint". Tim is soaring now. My prayers are with you as you honor Tim and lay him to rest.
