Obituary for Timothy Pearson Downs
June 20, 1963 – January 25, 2025
Timothy Pearson Downs, affectionately known as "Boots," passed away on January 25, 2025, at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital. He was 61 years old. A devoted father, brother, husband and friend, Tim was known for his unwavering work ethic, his love for his family, and his passion for golf.
Born on June 20, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan, to Thomas and Elizabeth Downs, Tim grew up in Clawson, where he made lifelong friendships and graduated from Clawson High School in 1982. With a dedication that defined his life, Tim began working alongside his parents in the HVAC industry at just 16 years old. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University Vocational School before pursuing a career as a licensed Heating and Cooling specialist. In 2001, he founded American Heating and Cooling, where his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence made a lasting impact.
Outside of work, Tim was happiest on the golf course, where his skill and passion for the game were evident – earning him not one but THREE holes-in-one! He was the heart and soul of the Clawson Men's Golf League and the beloved organizer of the Downs Open for many years, a family tradition that brought loved ones together year after year. A lover of music, Tim's playlists were often filled with the sounds of U2 and The Lumineers, creating the perfect soundtrack for his many adventures.
Above all, Tim cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved son, Ryan, who he often referred to as his Very Best Friend. Over the years, he was consistently involved in watching, cheering and coaching Ryan in his many sporting activities including wrestling, football, and of course, golf. Tim never hesitated to brag on Ryan's achievements to anyone who would lend an ear.
He is also survived by Ryan's mom, his former wife of 28 years, Terri Ann, and his brothers Dennis (Lisa), Matt, and Tom (Diane), along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members and dear friends who will miss him dearly. Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Downs, and his brother, Terry, known to most as "Hector."
Family and friends are invited to honor Tim's life at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 North Main St., Clawson, MI 48017, on Friday, January 31, from 2 PM to 8 PM, with a Rosary at 7:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1, at 10 AM at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 581 E. 14 Mile Rd., Clawson, MI 48017, with Tim lying in state at 9:30 AM.
