Valorie Stanton Haslem completed her earthly calling on April 17, 2024 in Lehi, UT. She was called home at 77 years young and was surrounded by family and wrapped in love.
Valorie was born in Murray, Utah on May 17, 1946 to Homer and Norma McCarty. She was blessed to have 4 siblings to navigate her childhood with Janet (Carwin) Daley, Joy (Martin) Tomlin, Carol Lynn (Brent) Severson, Bryon (Becky) McCarty. She loved to share stories about her childhood – some stories involved causing trouble with her siblings while others were about her immense love for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at a very young age. She was always equal parts a troublemaker and a guiding light.
Valorie married her first love Steven Stanton on September 21,1963 in Ely, NV and was later sealed in the LDS Temple. Valorie and Steve were blessed to have 4 incredible children, Krystal Fabrizio (Troy), Suzanna Bagshaw (Bill), Steve Stanton (Debbie), and Sandra Bowden (Joe). During this time Valorie worked outside of the home for some time before making the courageous decision to stay home with her young children. We recently learned that one of Valorie’s jobs was a nursing position at an assisted living. She never earned a nursing degree nor was she necessarily qualified for this position, but she did not let that stop her. If Valorie desired something she made it happen, regardless of the technicalities that tried to stand in her way. She was driven from a young age, and nothing would stop her from accomplishing what she wanted, even the handful of things she was told was not a great idea. Her fighting spirit will always be unmatched.
Valorie married her second love Wayne Haslem on February 27, 1988 in Hanna, UT. Valorie gained 2 beautiful stepdaughters, LaWanna Faircloth and LaDonna Haslem. Valorie and Wayne spent many years traveling North America and Hawaii. They loved seeing historical and LDS church sites, breathtaking scenery, and an abundance of wildlife during their travels. Valorie and Wayne served an LDS mission in Adam-ondi-Ahman, MO where they gained not only friends, but an even stronger love for their Heavenly Father and the teachings of Jesus Christ.
On the evening before Valorie accepted her new calling in heaven she bore her testimony. In her testimony she shared that she lived the most incredible life and that she was so grateful for all of it. She loved her Heavenly Father with all of her heart and she recalled looking him in the eyes and expressing her love for him. She said that she accomplished everything she had ever wanted and that she truly LIVED her life. She shared that her greatest joy, accomplishment, and that which she was most proud of was her children Krystal, Suzy, Stevie, and Sandy. She felt beyond blessed for all of her family and friends.
Valorie is survived by her children, stepchildren, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Norma McCarty, brothers Donald and Roger McCarty, husband Steven Stanton, and husband Wayne Haslem.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Bellaview Assisted Living for the love, patience, friendship, and care they provided to Valorie. She loved them all deeply and was grateful for their companionship.
In accordance with Valorie’s stern instructions, there will only be a private graveside service for the family in Tabiona. She did not want people to take time away from their families to mourn her death. Instead, honor her life and celebrate her new beginning by holding your loved ones tighter.
