Tim Hammett Obituary

Tim Hammett, beloved family man and dedicated member of his community, passed away peacefully Friday, August 29, 2025, in his home in Washington, surrounded by the love of his family. Born December 28, 1948, in Washington, he lived a life filled with hard work, devotion, and affection for those he cherished. Tim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany, where he developed a deep appreciation for camaraderie and service. Upon returning home, he built a fulfilling career, contributing his skills to Robison Pipe Cleaning and Brockway Glass until their closure. He later retired from Colombia Gas Transmission, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and diligence. Throughout his life, Tim was devoted first and foremost to his family. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Roger, September 5, 1970. Their bond was a profound one, enriched by many cherished memories until her passing. Afterward, he found love again with fiancee Lana Montgomery, sharing 25 beautiful years together filled with adventures and laughter. Tim pride and joys were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Terry) Negley; and daughter-in-law, Brandy Hammett; his grandchildren, Ryeleigh, Mason (little buddy), Caleb, Thorin, Seth and Sydknee; and he was delighted by the newest addition to the family, his great-grandson, Arden. Tim always put his family first, tirelessly working to provide for them while creating a warm and loving home environment. Tim's interests were as vibrant as his spirit. He found solace in the great outdoors, whether hunting or fishing, and cherished spending time at flea markets and riding motorcycles. His zest for life was matched only by his sense of community involvement. A life member of the American Legion Post 927 in Claysville, he also served as a former president of the American Legion Riders Post 639. His commitment to service extended to memberships with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 927 in Washington, the Claysville Sportsman Club, the National Rifle Association, Sinnemahoning Sportsman Association, and the Moose Lodge 22 in Washington. He was an active participant at Friendship Community Church, where he fostered connections with friends and fellow parishioners. Tim was preceded in death by his father, John Hammett; his mother, Mary Hammett; his beloved wife, Barbara Ann; and his son, Jason Hammett. Their memories will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew him. The legacy of Tim Hammett is felt not only in the hearts of his family, but also throughout the community he served. While we mourn his passing, we take solace in remembering a man whose life was a testament to love, perseverance, and unwavering support for those around him. His spirit will live on in the stories shared and memories celebrated by family and friends alike. Please do not send flowers. In honor of Tim, shake a veterans hand, send a letter to an active service member, or donate to Nathan Kennedy Scholarship Fund, 75 Landings Drive, Washington, PA 15301. Friends are invited to the William G. Neal Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4, with Military Honors to follow at Claysville Cemetery.
