It is with deep sadness that we announce the passsing of His Grace Bishop Timothy (Bakakos) of Hexamilion on Thursday, November 20, 2025. He departed this life peacefully, surrounded by his family, clergy, and the faithful whom he shepherded with love for more than four decades.
Bishop Timothy Bakakos, age 73, was the devoted son of the late Demosthenes and Antonia. He was preceded in death by his brother William (Althea) and is lovingly remembered by his brothers Gregory D. (Siree) Bakakos and Michael D. (Amy) Bakakos. He was a loving uncle to Christopher, Nicholas, Alex, Stephanie (Dominick), Antonia (Christopher), and Timothy, and a cherished great-uncle to Arianna, Joshua, Anthony, Nikolas, Cameron and Luca.
A devoted hierarch of the Holy Greek Orthodox Church, Bishop Timothy lived a life marked by humility, obedience, and unwavering commitment to the Gospel. His ministry reflected the timeless traditions and sacred heritage of the Greek Orthodox faith, which he upheld with profound reverence. Throughout his decades of service, he was known as a gentle spiritual father, offering guidance rooted in prayer, compassion, and wisdom.
His Grace's pastoral work touched countless lives. Whether preaching the Word of God, celebrating the Divine Liturgy, visiting the sick, or comforting the suffering, he carried out each responsibility with heartfelt dedication. He possessed a rare ability to make every soul feel known and loved, embodying Christ's call to shepherd His flock.
Bishop Timothy's legacy endures in the communities he nurtured, the clergy he mentored, and the faithful he inspired. His life was a living icon of service, reminding all who met him of the beauty of a heart offered wholly to God.
Visitation Monday, November 25th, beginning at 4:00 pm continuing throughout the night at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church 601 S. Central Ave. Chicago, IL. Parking and Security will be on premises throughout the evening.
Funeral Tuesday, November 26th, at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church beginning with Orthros at 8:00 am followed by the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy; Funeral Service 12:00 pm followed by his interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated.
