Timothy M. Kanavy, 51, of Scranton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of Leonard F. Kanavy of Scranton, and the late Mary J. Langan Kanavy. A graduate of the University of Scranton, he had been a salesman for Moore Business Forms and also worked in the restaurant industry.
Timmy was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend to all. Even through his struggles he was a gentle, compassionate soul, always warm, gracious and kind. His most often used words were "Thank You!" He had a personality that lit up a room and his huge smile always made others smile. He loved the Phillies and was a dedicated Penn State fan. In his earlier years he enjoyed camping, watching movies and cooking. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.
Timmy is survived by siblings, Kathy Kotula and husband, John, Highland Beach, Fla.; Karen Joyce and husband, Jack, Scranton; Len Kanavy and wife, Milissa, Anna Maria Island, Fla.; Chris Kanavy and wife, Diane, Selbyville, Del.; Mari Mele and significant other, Phil Bienicki, Lake Ariel; and Joann Dippre and husband, Kevin, Scranton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Jamie Kotula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 800 Taylor Ave., Scranton. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jamie Kotula Foundation, 245 Main St., Dickson City, PA 18519.

Truly saddened to hear this. I graduated high school with Timmy. He was always a bright light in the room. His smile was contagious and made every gathering more fun. Prayers and condolences to his family. My heart is heavy today.
