In loving memory of Timothy Wayne Knox
Timothy Wayne Knox, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on January 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and boundless encouragement and support. Born on September 12, 1960, at Huntsville Hospital, Tim was the third of four children born to Gertrude Barnett Knox.
Tim enjoyed playing with GI Joes and crafting clothes for them out of scrap material and kept those GI Joes to pass down to his grandkids. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 12 because his older sister, Pat, "stood over me with a fly swatter and popped the heck out of me when I missed a note (man, talk about tough love)." (Excerpt taken from one of several books he wrote, "Everything I Know About Business I Learned From My Mama"). He recently expressed a desire to revisit his musical roots and hoped to share his passion with his grandsons, although with a much gentler approach to learning.
Tim's personality and natural leadership qualities quickly made him a popular figure in school. His younger brother, Don, recently said, "He commanded every room he entered and center stage was always wherever he was standing." If that doesn't describe Tim, I don't know what does.
A member of the inaugural four-year graduating class of Bob Jones High School in 1978, Tim's aspirations diverged from the traditional college path. Humorously dismissing higher education, he often quipped, "I drove by a college once and it looked really hard, so I kept going." Tim's professional journey began as a radio DJ, and he would still tell you, to this day, it was his favorite job and he had never been happier making $5/hour.
A devoted son, Tim cherished his time spent with his mother, sharing lunch and soap operas at her house three days a week until her passing in 2018. In his personal life, Tim found profound joy and fulfillment in his roles as a husband to Melissa Cole Knox for 30 years and a devoted father to his daughters, Chelsea McKinney (Ammon) and Sierra Knox (Chance). However, his greatest source of pride and happiness as of late came from being the most fantastic "Bumpa" to his grandsons, Archer and Warren. The bond between Tim and his grandkids was indescribable and it is a known fact to everyone he encountered that his boys were his world. In 2021, he, Melissa, and Sierra moved 5 doors down from Chelsea and the kids and "The Compound" was born. The family would have dinners together, breakfasts on the weekends, lunches after church, playtime in the pool and on the swing sets, and snuggles on the crash pad in the living room almost every day of the week. It was really something special, both for him and the kids.
A driven entrepreneur with an insatiable thirst for knowledge and self-development, Tim embarked on numerous business ventures throughout his life. From radio host to stand-up comedy, website design and development to ghostwriting, a gun store, and most recently a real estate company with Chelsea (2018) and a HotWorx franchise with Sierra (2023), Tim's diverse interests and relentless determination propelled him to succeed in most every endeavor he pursued. His unwavering commitment to providing for his family and ensuring their future success was evident, even at the end.
Tim's impact extended far beyond his immediate circle, as evidenced by his presence on social media and the fond memories shared by countless individuals whose lives he touched. His boundless support, encouragement and genuine care for people will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tim's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family will continue to inspire and uplift those who knew him. Tim's family encourages you to love your family fiercely, never leave anything left unsaid, check in on your people daily, ask how you can help solve their problems, see a need and fill a need, build relationships and encourage those that are around you, be the biggest cheerleader and greatest support to those you love, and always remember to be like Bumpa.
