Thomas Lamar 'Tommy' Hanson, Jr. was born at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, GA on November 12, 1943. He was born to Leamon Alberta (Berta) Allen Hanson and Thomas Lamar Hanson, Sr. of Monroe and Social Circle, GA.
Tommy graduated from Murphy High School in Atlanta in 1962, and began his career at Trust Company Bank. He later moved into office supply sales and paper sales. As a side interest, he worked for Horis A. Ward Funeral Home for several years during the 90s. He retired from his career in paper sales in 2006. He then worked part time for Gwinnett County Schools as a bus monitor for special needs students; he particularly enjoyed this work and found it to be rewarding helping the kids.
Tom passed away the morning of September 5, 2022 after a long battle with Parkinson's and several other health challenges. He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Carol Wilkinson Hanson of Grayson, GA; daughter, Leslie Hanson (Heather Willett) of Tucker, GA; son, Russ Hanson, of Grayson, GA; sister, Barbara Jean Hanson George of Social Circle, GA; sister-in-law, Sandra Wilkinson of Loganville, GA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Tommy was a 'people person' and never met a stranger. He loved his family and was proud of his son and daughter. He liked to have a good time and always had a soft spot for animals, including his most recent beloved cat, Patches. He will be missed by many, but remembered fondly through all the memories. He regularly attended Hardeman Primitive Baptist Church, where he originally met Carol Wilkinson.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Elder David Smith officiating; interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Donations may be made in his memory to Hardeman Primitive Baptist Church C/O Sandra Wilkinson 941 Rolling Meadows Dr., Loganville, GA 30052
Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com. Scot Ward Funeral Services, 699 American Legion Road, Conyers, GA 30012, 770-483-7216.
