Tom Sawyer

Tom was a 'classmate' of mine, also first elected to the U. S. House in 1986. He was a good man and a great friend and an excellent Member of Congress. I am deeply saddened that he is no longer with us. Tom was one of the four co-chairs of the group that organized the House Bi-Partisan Retreats, which were held in 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2003. They were an early effort by Tom and others to address the relationships among Members even then deteriorating -- seems almost quaint when remembered in the midst of today's partisanship. I miss him.

Tom Sawyer will always be remembered as a dedicated and supportive political leader. I will forever appreciate his support with my political campaigns and will forever cherish his hard work and dedication throughout Ohio.
