Tomas Flores

Tomas Indalecio Flores, 84, American hero and devoted servant of God, joined his Heavenly Father on November 16, 2025. He was born on September 11, 1941, in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico, to Jose and Guadalupe Flores. As a teenager, he journeyed on horseback with his father and eldest brother to New Mexico, establishing the Flores family in the U.S. This sparked his lifelong dedication to his adopted country, which he served with deep patriotism. As soon as he became a citizen, he pursued a distinguished career in municipal, state, and federal law enforcement. His greatest heroism occurred in 1980 at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, during riots after the Mariel Boatlift. As fire raged through the barracks, he stationed himself on the ground and caught dozens of men jumping from second-story windows. He saved those lives at great personal cost; severe spinal injuries left him incapacitated, shortening him by two inches and causing lifelong pain. He bore this with strength, embodying American courage, compassion, and duty, inspiring family and nation. Tomas's unshakeable faith guided his life. A devout Christian, he lived by love, humility, and service to God, finding solace in scripture and anticipating reunion with Jesus and loved ones in glory. Tomas is survived by his beloved wife Beth; children Carmen, Pam, Daniel (Kristina), Debbie (Anthony), Shirley (Eddie) and Nancy; sisters Ruth and MaryAnn; and many adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In heaven, he reunited with parents Jose and Guadalupe; his son Herman, brothers Jose, Abel, Martin, Ramiro, and John; and sister Martha. A celebration of life, honoring his heroism and faith, is set for December 14, 2025, at the American Legion Hall in Pecos from 1-4pm. Private interment will take place at a later date.
