Dr. Tomas Kuon was born on February 2, 1939, in Manila, Philippines, and peacefully entered the Lord's embrace on November 6, 2024, in Delaware, USA, at the age of 85.
A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine in the Philippines, Dr. Kuon moved to the United States in 1965, where he completed his residency at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. He then embarked on a fulfilling career of private practice in Wilmington DE, which he continued until his retirement. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Kuon cultivated deep and lasting friendships that became some of his most cherished treasures.
Known for his boundless generosity and compassion, Dr. Kuon was always willing to lend a helping hand. He possessed an extraordinary memory, effortlessly reciting Bible verses and classical Chinese poetry, leaving those around him in awe. His natural wit and humor were a constant source of joy, brightening the lives of everyone he met.
Dr. Kuon's talents extended far beyond medicine. An accomplished tennis player, especially his backhand. He also taught himself to paint with oil and pastel. His vibrant artwork was frequently shared with friends and families. A passionate traveler, he explored all around the globe, immersing himself in the wonders of both nature and culture. Some other fun adventures also included: raising quails, aquarium exotic fishes, and don't forget, he also tried to hatch baby chickens.
In retirement, Dr. Kuon devoted himself to his faith, engaging in daily Bible study and actively participating in fellowship study. He also found joy in gardening and the serenity of nature. Among his many other interests, he was particularly interested in Chinese calligraphy, mastering the art of cursive script with grace and elegance. No matter whether it rains or shines, he faithfully drove his beloved wife to and from work for fifteen years.
Dr. Kuon is survived by his siblings: Elizabeth, Phillip, Albino, Toribio, Elena, and Leandro Jr.. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce; his children and their spouses: James and Martha, Donald and Sue, Barry, and Thomas and Gena. And five beloved grandchildren: Nicholas, Kyle, Megan, Samantha and Alexandra.
