Tommie "Tom" Lee Colvill, 88, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Northview Health and Living in Anderson.
Born January 5, 1938, in Orestes, Indiana, Tom was the son of Vernon and Genevieve (Zellars) Colvill. He was a lifelong resident of the area and made his home in Alexandria.
Tom graduated from Alexandria High School in 1956. While in high school, he enjoyed being a part of the drama club and was part of the cast for the senior play. On July 25, 1958, he married the love of his life, Shirley Holthouser. Together they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage.
Following high school, Tom attended Milligan College in Tennessee and then went on to Tri-City Barber College in Kentucky, where he graduated in 1959. He went on to dedicate more than 60 years in the personal care and service industry as a skilled barber, proudly self-employed for many of those years. He was known not only for his talent and craftsmanship, but also for his warm personality and the genuine care he showed to each of his patrons.
Tom was a faithful member of First Christian Church in Alexandria for over 60 years and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also held longtime membership in the Society of "A" Men, beginning in 1956 and always helped organize the yearly reunions and social gatherings for the class of 1956.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Shirley Colvill; his son, Scott (Sharon) Colvill of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; his daughter, Kimberly (Glen) Gray of Carmel, Indiana; his grandchildren, Max Colvill, Mackenzie Colvill, Zachary (Jessica) Gray, Hannah Gray, and Addie (Jeremy) Gonzalez; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Anita Gullett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Genevieve Colvill.
Family and friends may gather from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 South Park Avenue, Alexandria, Indiana. A celebration of Tom's life will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Julia Bratton officiating.
Private cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
