Tommie Louise Jowers Shelby Pearson, age 81, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026. She was born on October 1, 1944, in
Florala, Alabama, and moved to Georgia in 1967, where she resided for the remainder of her life.
Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Lois Louise Jowers and Thomas Cecil Jowers; her husbands, Joseph Howard Shelby, Sr. and William Perkins Pearson; her son, Ronald Douglas Jowers; and her son-in-law, Jeffrey Turpin.
Born the baby of her family with eleven older siblings, Tommie grew up surrounded by love and carried that closeness with her throughout her life. Family was always at the center of Tommie's life and extended far beyond immediate relatives to include countless in-laws, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was the heart of gatherings, the keeper of traditions, and a constant source of love, wisdom, and support and yoo-hoos for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and good food, and her presence made everyone feel welcome and cared for.
She is survived by her four children: Lisa (Edward) Mayfield, Joseph (Margaret) Shelby, Jr. , David (Paula) Shelby, and Sherry Turpin; her grandchildren: Catie Roundfield, Courtney (Kurt) Hayden, Kristie (Christopher) Watkins, Jennifer (Austin) Rowan, Summer Stubbs, Chad (Marissa) Mayfield, Alexander Adams, and Ansley Louise Turpin; and her great-grandchildren: Caden Roundfield, Cabot Roundfield, Skylar Hayden, Bailey Hayden, Grayson Hayden, Hannah Watkins, Jeremiah Watkins, Ellie Watkins, Esme Rowan, Brody Rowan, Braxton Rowan, Cohen Stubbs, Casey Mayfield, Colton Mayfield, and Chyenne Mayfield.
Tommie found joy in life's simple pleasures-watching her daily soap operas: Young and the Restless; nightly viewing of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy; playing on her iPad; reading; and cooking meals that brought her family together. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping, a love she happily passed down to her granddaughters, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
She spent many years working as a Quality Control Technician for Owens-Illinois, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. This also led to many a family jokes about their momma working in a glass factory when someone was blocking the television. Tommie was also a devoted member of the Jonesboro Eastern Star, where she proudly served as Worthy Matron, reflecting her commitment to service, leadership, and fellowship.
While Tommie will be deeply missed by all who loved her, her family finds comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering and is now at peace. They rejoice in the promise of Scripture that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and they take comfort in knowing she has been welcomed home, reunited with loved ones who went before her, and is resting in eternal peace.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 20, at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in
Griffin, Georgia. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m to 12:30 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in
Forest Park, Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Chad Mayfield, Alexander Adams, Caden Roundfield, Cabot Roundfield, Kurt Hayden, and Christopher Watkins.
