Vernon Thomas “Tommy” Bird, 89, of Folkston, GA passed away Friday, January 3, 2025 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born May 3, 1935, in Jacksonville, FL to the late Vernon Roscoe Bird and Helen Brown Bass. He retired in 1978 from the City of Jacksonville and after retirement he worked with Hopkins Gowen Oil Company in Folkston. Mr. Tommy was a member of Camp Pinckney Baptist Church and attended the First Baptist Church of Boulougne.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Julie McCoy Bird.
Tommy is survived by his daughters: Lisa Bird and Kelli (Randy) Powers; step-children: Benny Peavey and Julie Stevens; grandchildren: Brendon Cole (Kylie) Powers, Lane Gilley and Shea (Marina) Gilley; sisters: Anne Kerr and Joan Bird and significant other: JoAnn Thompson and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 at noon at Camp Pinckney Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Hall and Pastor Sonny Foreacre officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
