Tommy Etheridge
(August 5, 1943 - October 11, 2024)
Tommy Etheridge, age 81, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2024. Born on August 5, 1943, to Jay and Faye Etheridge, he grew up with a deep love for family, adventure, and simple pleasures. Tommy graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in electrical engineering, a career that took him around the world. His work led him to incredible opportunities, including stints in Iran, the U.K., and Alaska. He embraced each new location with enthusiasm, always seeking to make the most of every experience. His adventures abroad reflected the same spirit of curiosity that shaped his life outside of work.
Tommy is survived by his devoted wife of many years, Brenda Etheridge, and their two sons, Shawn (Lori) and Michael (Leslie). He is now reunited with his beloved mother, Faye, who preceded him in death. He is also survived by his father Jay, his sisters Nadine (Jim) and Vicky (Jim) and his brother Ron (Anita), along with numerous nephews and nieces. He was a proud and loving grandfather to six grandchildren: Riley, Kennedy (Nick), Jack (Megan), Lucas, Nathan, and Katherine, as well as two great-grandchildren, Mack and Elliott, who brought an extra measure of joy to his life in his later years.
In addition to his professional and worldly travels, Tommy had a deep passion for recreational travel with his family. He found peace in deep sea fishing and went as often as he could, enjoying the quiet serenity of nature. His passions included puzzles of all kinds, playing cards and Texas 42 dominoes with friends, where his competitive spirit and sharp wit always made him a lively presence at the table.
Though Tommy did not personally battle cancer, the disease impacted his family, and supporting cancer research was a cause close to his heart. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Tommy's name to honor his dedication to this important cause.
Tommy will be remembered for his kind heart, his love for his family, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. His legacy of warmth, laughter, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of Tommy's life will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas on October 16, 2024. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather to honor his memory and celebrate his remarkable life.
