Mr. Tommy Lee Perkins, 85, passed away on November 26, 2024. He was born on October 8, 1939 in Forsyth County to the late Thomas Walter and Jamie Smitherman Perkins. Tommy was active in the United Methodist Church for years where a main highlight of his was going on a mission trip to Haiti in the late 70s. Tommy served as choir director, church treasurer, and chairman of the finance committee. He worked at RJ Reynolds for 29 years in the engineering department. Tommy also traveled for work to Avoca Farms in Merry Hill, North Carolina for project research. After RJ Reynolds, he worked in construction for 10 or more years. He was known for being the neighborhood “Mr. Fix It”. Tommy also served as the President of the Yadkinville Jaycees and was a building inspector in Yadkin County.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Linda Smith Perkins; and brothers-in-law, Robert D. Smith, Jr. and Phillip Graham. Tommy is survived by a daughter, Jamie (David) McCollum; a son, Lee Perkins; grandchildren, Brittany (Dan) Darst and Kenton (Lauren) McCollum; great grandchildren, Luna Darst and Raelyn Darst; a sister, Carolyn Graham; nephews, David (Kristie) Graham and Jason (Angie) Graham; and nieces, Michelle (Benny) Ellis, Melinda (Randy) Clark, and Pam (David) Bricker; sister-in-law, Roberta (Merle) Lewis, Sue (Robert) Smith.
A funeral service for Tommy will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Gentry Family Chapel of Yadkinville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Union Grove Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to SECU Hospice Care Center of Yadkin at 243 N Lee Ave, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Memorials can also be made to Yadkin Nursing Center at 903 W Main St, Yadkinville, NC 27055. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to all of Tommy’s caregivers over the last two years.
