In Loving Memory of
Anthony Wayne Carani
November 9, 1968 – April 23, 2025
Anthony Wayne Carani, affectionately known as Tony, of Highland Park and Highwood, IL, passed away at the age of 56 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 9, 1968, in Highland Park, he was the beloved youngest son of Lucien Patrick and Sheila Kay (née Patrick) Carani.
Tony was a proud graduate of Deerfield High School, Class of 1986, and attended Northwood Junior High before that. Known for his magnetic personality and quick wit, Tony made his mark as a bartender, working at cherished local spots including Hunters Lounge, Skokie Country Club and Alex's Washington Gardens.
Tony had a passion for the simple joys of life-cheering on his Chicago Bears and Cubs, casting a line on a random fishing trip, hitting the road for one of his many adventures, and dancing through life to the beat of his favorite bands. A true foodie, Tony loved to cook and was the grill master of his barbecue. But above all, he was known for his humor. A self-proclaimed "joker of all trades," he never missed a chance to make someone laugh-even his final joke was a classic:
"Why do ducks have tail feathers? To hide their butt quacks."
Tony is survived by the love of his life, Jamey Dillon; his children Billy Mattern (Brandie Barksdale), Maddie Carani, A.J. Huey, and Jacob Dillon; and his granddaughter Kaylee Mattern. He also leaves behind his brother Lucien "PJ" Carani Jr. (Lora), nephew Lucien III, niece Ashley Kay Carani, and former wife Linda Carani.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Campbell and his team of angels at the Kellogg Cancer Center, for their exceptional care and compassion.
A celebration of Tony's life will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Highwood Bocce Courts 440 Bank Lane, Highwood. A memorial Luncheon to follow 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. In honor of his legendary sense of humor, attendees are encouraged to bring a written joke or a favorite Tony memory to share during the gathering.
Tony's laughter, love, and larger-than-life spirit will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
