With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Tony Gutierrez Jr. who entered eternal rest on March 2, 2025. TJ was a beloved son, father, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. He is survived by his mother, Karen Martin Shuck; his father, Tony Gutierrez; his grandmother, Mary Marema; his children, Tony Gutierrez III, and Claire Doolan; and his devoted fiancée, Jeanette King. He also leaves behind his brothers, Josh Martin and Andy Gutierrez, as well as his three adored nieces, Abbigail, Lillian, and Elizabeth. He also leaves behind his loving Uncles and Aunts, Rudy Martin (Karen), Bruce Martin (Pam), Bertha Acosta-Wilson, Elva Pitts (Rick), and Alice Bockelman (Daniel), and his four-legged best friend Max. TJ was deeply loved by a multitude of extended family and friends whose lives he touched in countless ways.
TJ divided his time between Chicago, IL and Shady Spring, WV, always carrying with him a profound love for the mountains of West Virginia. He found peace and joy in hiking, stargazing and capturing nature's beauty through photography and painting. He had a special appreciation for birds and wildlife, often pausing to admire the world around him on his mountain hikes.
A gifted cook, TJ followed his passion for the culinary arts by attending the Culinary Art Institute in Chicago. Whether he was grilling for family or experimenting with new flavors, his love for cooking brought people together. He was also a talented singer, finding happiness in karaoke, country music and summer concerts, where his warm spirit and infectious smile could always light up a room.
TJ's kind heart, adventurous spirit, and deep love for his family will always be remembered. Though his time with us was far too short, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of TJ's life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home in Beckley, WV, from 1: 00 PM to 3:00 PM. Visitors are invited to share memories of TJ. In honor of his memory, the family invites you to listen to a song that reminds you of him, enjoy a home cooked meal, or take a walk in nature, as he so often did.
May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty he so deeply loved.
