Tonya Carter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chatman-Harris Funeral Home West on Dec. 31, 2025.
Tonya was born on April 15, 1983, to Hamilton and Ernestine Carter, and she departed to her heavenly home on December 25, 2025. Although Tonya never had the chance to open her Christmas gifts, God granted her the greatest gift of all, eternal life.
Tonya was diagnosed with diabetes at a young age and spent much of her life in and out of hospitals, coming close to death several times. Yet she never lost her faith. She firmly believed that God would heal her, and she held on with courage and determination. Tonya was a true worshiper who loved to stand and bless the Lord during services. She loved to sing and dance, often using her beautiful voice to minister at funerals and in church. Tonya's laughter and radiant smile could light up any room. When she agreed with something you said, her famous response was. 'Hello and goodbye." She brought joy and laughter to everyone around her.
Tonya was blessed with one daughter, Miracle, whom she cherished deeply and spoke of often with great love and pride. She was a faithful member of Manna Nation under the leadership of Bishop Jonathan Wallace Sr., whom she loved dearly and spoke of with respect. Tonya loved attending church and participated regularly until her breath no longer allowed her to.
Tonya leaves to cherish her memory; her daughter, Miracle Hopkins; two loving sisters, Adrian (Glen) Maguize and Brenda (Raymond) Banks; one brother, Daniel Carter Sr.; a devoted aunt, Lorraine Elsezy; several aunts and uncles; cousin, Barbara Rhodes; her caregivers Bernadette Fouse-Coke, Evette Brockington, and Tyrone Carter; and a host of family members, friends, and caregivers who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by four brothers.
Special acknowledgement of assisted living facility Max Care, for providing her with care and comfort until her transition. Tonya will truly be missed but never forgotten. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Tonya, please visit our floral store.
