Torrey Fenton Obituary

Oakdale - Torrey Gamage Fenton died peacefully at home Oct. 10, 2025, following a brief illness. She was born April 11, 1937, and was raised in Gloucester, Mass.

She graduated from Connecticut College in 1959, and married her husband David that summer. They were married for 61 years until his death in 2020.

She earned two master's degrees in English and education from Connecticut College and went on to teach in local school systems. After retirement, she volunteered for several decades at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and for The Friends of Otis Library.

Torrey and David loved to travel the world, especially to England to spend time with family.

Torrey will be remembered for her outgoing personality - always striving to get a smile or laugh; her love of people and her genuine and kindhearted demeanor.

She is survived by her daughter Wendy and husband Greg Mitchell; her sisters, Townley and Toby, both of Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her husband David; and son Chris.

Funeral arrangements will be private. A Celebration of her Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Friends of Otis Library or the Connecticut Humane Society.

Torrey has been a wonderful neighbor and friend to our family since she and David moved here so many years ago. It was a pleasure to spend time with her because she was always smiling, fun and so full of life. Wendy & Greg, you have our deepest sympathy for your loss, which is also a great loss to all of us who knew and loved her. She will most certainly be missed.

I am so heartbroken to see this. Mrs. Fenton was such a peach of a lady!! Always smiling and making jokes. I got to know her when she worked at the Lobby Shop @L&M. And then I would run into her at our local little grocery store in town with her little dog. She always had a smile. RIP sweet lady.

Mrs. Fenton wasn´t only our family´s most wonderful neighbor of 39 yrs, she was an extraordinary person, full of life, love, and energy. Her bubbly personality would light up a room and brighten anyone´s day. She brought so much love and warmth to our neighborhood.
I´ll cherish the memories of our times together especially meeting at the stone wall, to catch up on things and when I would call in a panic needing an egg, cup of sugar, or a can of cream of mushroom soup. She was always there for us. I´ll miss so so much not seeing her sitting on her porch, doing her crossword puzzles, with her dog or dogs close to her. We´ll deeply miss her. I feel Mrs. Fenton´s strength and legacy will live on through her amazing daughter Wendy.

Mrs. Fenton was a wonderful friend to me. She was a very Special lady. We bonded over growing flowers, and feeding the birds. She taught me so much. I really miss her.

Wendy, you had such great times with your mother. It is so hard to lose our parents. We go to pick up the phone to share something exciting and then "oh yeah" we can´t do that. The bond between a mother and daughter is unbreakable. Remember the good times and all the memories she gave you. Thinking of you at this time. Ruth

Torrey Fenton was a perfect soul and a blessing to all who knew her! She was wickedly funny and loved life...and LOVED her children beyond measure. She and her daughter, Wendy, were the best of friends and I was honored and blessed to witness their love and affection for each other. Wendy, you are such a great daughter and did all that you could to ease her into the next...whatever. I will miss her greatly but am so grateful to have known her. LAG
