Tracy Capers Gunter, Jr., 84, followed his late wife, Wynette Gunter home on Sunday, March 23, 2025. Tracy was a devoted husband of 62 years, loving father, doting grandfather and a servant of Jesus Christ each day. He lived his life rooted in God’s word and eagerly shared it with those he met along the way. Along with his wife, he was a faithful member of Steadman Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Tracy was known for his strong work ethic, determination, beautiful voice and no-quit attitude. As the owner of Tracy’s Logging, he was not only a leader in his industry, but also a role model and father figure to many of his employees who were like family.

In 1996, he was named National Logger of the Year by the American Pulpwood Association and was the Forestry Association’s 1994 Outstanding Logger of the Year. He served on the Forestry Association’s Board of Directors (1994-'96), Logging Advisory Committee, Timber Harvesting Task Force, Logger Accreditation Subgroup on Insurance/Safety, and TOP Task Force.

Tracy loved life and having his family nearby. He enjoyed sports- especially Gamecock Football and Baseball (drafted to the Baltimore Orioles as a catcher in 1959), Western television shows, swinging in his porch swing and his wife’s delicious cooking. Tracy’s life, love and leadership made a difference for so many, and his legacy will live on for generations to come.

Surviving are his children, Lisa Gunter Price, Jennifer Gunter Scruggs (Joey), Tracy Capers Gunter, III (Gariane); as well as his grandchildren, Scott Price (Hannah), Chip Price (Jillian); Josh Scruggs, Jake Scruggs (fiancé, Paige), Jenna Scruggs, Isabella Gunter and Tracy Capers Gunter, IV; and great grandson, Nate Price.

Tracy will be laid to rest at 11 o'clock Saturday March 29th at Steadman Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Pastor Neal Smith and Pastor Chris Addy will officiate. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church sanctuary. Active pallbearers will be: Scott Price, Chip Price, Josh Scruggs, Jake Scruggs, Tracy Capers Gunter IV, Joey Scruggs and Mark Dubose.
