Tracy Haffner Obituary

Published by Macy Allnutt Funeral Service-Eaton Chapel on Nov. 28, 2010.
"Be still and know that I am God." Tracy Haffner became still after a courageous three-year fight with cancer on November 28, 2010 in Greeley, Colorado. Known for her resolute faith in God and unbridled optimism in every one she met, Tracy lived life abundantly as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. An alumna of Columbine High School's class of 1978, she was born in Boulder, Colorado on December 21, 1959. Following two years of study at Colorado State University, Tracy joined Cast E of Up With People, traveling and performing throughout North America and Northern Europe as a chorus member and advance team lead. With an engaging smile and infectious laugh, Tracy captivated the hearts of those she encountered, ever broadening her circle of friends. She married the love of her life J. Derek Haffner on September 6, 1997 at Parker United Methodist Church, Parker, Colorado. Together they enjoyed the privilege of raising three amazing children – Kate, Jonathan, and Kendall, while instilling in them a love for God, family, and the wonders of the Rocky Mountain West. Following her passion for children, Tracy worked as a Teaching Assistant at Anne K. Heiman Elementary in Evans, Colorado. Tracy is survived by her husband, Derek and their children Kate Haffner, Jonathan Haffner, and Kendall Haffner. Also surviving are her parents, Doug Covington of Englewood and Nancee Schweers of Greeley, her brothers Tim Covington of Crested Butte and Mike Covington of Aurora and niece Andrea Covington of Greeley. A public visitation will be held at the Allnutt Macy Chapel, 702 13th Street, Greeley, from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010. Services include a candlelight memorial at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 2nd at the Evans United Methodist Church and the funeral service at 9:30 a.m. Friday, December 3rd at the First United Methodist Church of Greeley, followed by a service of Christian burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northern Colorado in care of Allnutt, 702 13th St., Greeley, CO 80631. The family also gratefully acknowledges the care she received by Dr. William Oligmueller, Dr. Douglas Kemme, Drs. Rob and Kelli Janata, the staff of North Colorado Medical Center, and Dr. Ross Camidge and staff at University Hospital's Anschutz Cancer Center.
